Why Join the BSGA?
However, Membership of the BSGA also provides much more. The BSGA is a pro-active organisation working on a continuous basis to defend the interests of the industry against potential threats that would damage the ability to do business and to provide a range of member services.
Marketing our Members
This website has been designed primarily as a marketing tool for BSGA members and we are orchestrating an ongoing campaign to make the site the first point of call for anyone seeking information about signs or the sign industry in the UK.
All members have direct access to the site to upload their own profiles, with links to their own sites, and the ‘Approved Sign Maker’ search facility gives visitors easy access to members locally or nationwide.
The newly formatted site features a new and, we believe, unique ‘instant industry news’ section which will be updated at least every week, giving members an additional cost-free method of reaching potential customers.
The BSGA also publishes a newsletter four times every year which is distributed to over 7000 people involved in or with the sign industry. In addition to Association news, it carries stories about members and their successes. The BSGA also features on Twitter and Facebook and whenever possible members feature in our Tweets and blogs.
The BSGA Technical Guidelines are the definitive guide to designing, manufacturing and installing signs in the UK. Updated by the Association’s Technical Committee, the guidelines are updated and expanded on a continual basis and form an essential tool for any serious sign maker.
Education & Training
The BSGA continues to work on behalf of the industry to promote formal training and education for the sign industry. There is an ongoing need to improve the skills base within the industry and to provide people working in the industry with recognised qualifications and the potential of a defined career path. It is particularly important at times of budgetary restraint to ensure that the sign industry in not overlooked when funding for training is allocated.
In addition, the BSGA has recognised that many of its Associate (supplier) Members provide specific training on a wide range of subjects. As part of its role as the lead body for the industry, the BSGA is providing accreditation to approved training courses.
Planning laws are subject to potential change and any substantial alterations in planning regulations could adversely affect every sign maker in terms of both time and costs. The BSGA is the only professional sign industry body that actively monitors potential changes in planning laws. Where any such proposals appear to be to the detriment of the sign industry, the BSGA will take all steps necessary to defend the industry’s position.
The BSGA also provides constant monitoring of Local Plans with regard to the effect they may have on signs and where necessary objects to any ‘unreasonable ‘ local conditions. The association also provides advice and assistance to members who have planning problems and queries.
Representation and Lobbying
The BSGA maintains a constant monitor on legislative matters in the UK and in Europe, which may affect the sign industry and, where necessary, lobbies on behalf of the industry.
The BSGA has been the ONLY trade association to have represented the interests of sign makers and sign installers with regard to CSCS cards.
Through the BSGA, members have access to advantageous services in a number of areas including:
